Review:
Author Rob Roy calls it “a banker's worst nightmare”, but for those searching for a way to avoid slumping through life in bondage, as he puts it, Mortgage Free! is a stimulating collection of strategies for getting into your own home, atop your own land, and on your own terms—free and clear. In an organized fashion, the well-known owner/builder/author has outlined a working blueprint for success—financial and otherwise—that covers everything from raising the needed grubstake to locating and securing the land, to doing the critical planning and building that's essential to making the whole scheme work. Though it’s not a building book per se, it is a how-to book in every sense of the word, and includes some inspiring profiles of people who've successfully "broken the bank" by circumventing the mortgage process and making some meaningful lifestyle decisions. The 368-page book includes a good selection of photographs, and illustrations rendered by architect/artist Malcolm Wells. However, the wealth of useful charts, resources, appendices, and pure insight is what puts this work over the top.
